The Last Clear View
Ashfall Watch crowns a broken ridge of dark basalt overlooking the western roads of Keynew. The structure itself is little more than a weathered stone platform, a half-collapsed signal tower, and a ring of old marker stones. From here, travelers can see the smoky slopes surrounding Dragonsmane, the Cinder Trail cutting across the lower country, and on clear days the greener lands of central Keynew far behind them.
The place is exposed, cold at night, and almost always dusted with a fine gray grit carried eastward from the volcanic region. No one lives here permanently. Those who stop at Ashfall Watch do so only long enough to rest, read the weather, check the road, or decide whether they truly wish to continue.
