The Gate Beneath the Leaves
Whisperleaf Circle is not a large town. It is a compact collection of timber halls, elevated walkways, watch platforms, gardens, stables, and traveler shelters arranged around an ancient ring of silver-barked trees. The settlement lies just south of the recognized border of Eirlyn and functions as the primary controlled route for those traveling north into elven territory.
Elven wardens maintain the road, inspect travelers, assign guides when needed, and decide who may proceed farther north. Dwarves, halflings, gnomes, half-elves, and many other non-human travelers are commonly permitted to pass after stating their purpose. Entry into Eirlyn is never treated as an automatic right, but peaceful travelers are usually handled with formality rather than hostility.
Humans receive a very different welcome. The elves of Whisperleaf Circle openly distrust them, and old resentment toward human expansion into Keynew remains part of daily life. Humans may be allowed to use the road under supervision when passage is necessary, but they are expected to keep moving and are rarely invited into private homes, gathering halls, or sacred spaces.
