A Fortress That Never Truly Fell Silent
Khar-Mazad was once one of the great Ophidian military outposts serving old Zan'Karu. During the Ophidian War, the city was broken apart in a siege so violent that entire districts collapsed into one another. Walls split, towers fell across streets, and the central fortress was torn open from within. The city was never rebuilt.
Yet Khar-Mazad was never abandoned. Scavengers, exiles, descendants of old camp followers, and hard-bitten survivors eventually claimed the margins of the ruins. They live in fortified pockets among the broken stones, but the heart of the city remains forbidden.
Even in daylight, Khar-Mazad feels watched. Wind moves through hollow towers like breath through teeth. Ancient Ophidian carvings remain visible beneath later masonry. Some structures lean at impossible angles, held in place by nothing that can be seen.
