Vanaras of Abadonya

Vanaras are intelligent, monkeylike humanoids most strongly associated with Oriander's warm forests and lush island jungles. Agile, observant, and naturally comfortable in the trees, they build elevated communities linked by rope bridges, ladders, and carved trunk-homes. Their culture values wisdom, adaptability, community ritual, and graceful movement through the canopy.

People of the Warm Canopy

Vanara communities are found throughout Oriander's warm forests, especially on large islands with old-growth jungle and extensive upper canopies.

They are at home both on the ground and among the trees, but many villages are built above the forest floor where broad branches, carved trunks, and rope-linked platforms provide natural protection.

Vanaras tend to be curious about other peoples and their customs, though most remain strongly attached to the rituals and communal traditions of home.

AppearanceFur, Tail & Expressive Movement

Monkeylike Humanoids

Vanaras are humanoid in overall shape but are covered in a thin coat of soft fur. Common coat colors include chestnut, ivory, gold, brown, and darker tropical shades.

Their head hair can grow long and usually matches their fur. Elaborate hairstyles are especially common during important social or religious events.

Long prehensile tails provide additional balance and allow Vanaras to retrieve small carried objects without using their hands.

Their feet are well suited to climbing, and even an untrained Vanara usually moves through branches with confidence.

Homes Connected by Rope and Branch

Vanara villages are often built directly into large trees, with homes carved into trunks or built on broad platforms.

Rope bridges, hanging ladders, branch paths, and woven canopies connect different parts of a settlement.

Buildings are often open to the surrounding air, protected by broad leaves, natural overhangs, and woven shelters rather than sealed walls.

The result is a village that feels more like part of the forest than something constructed against it.

Leadership & TraditionWisdom Before Wealth

Communities Guided by Spiritual Leaders

Vanara settlements traditionally give great respect to spiritual teachers, monks, oracles, clerics, druids, and other individuals known for wisdom and self-control.

Leadership does not always mean absolute authority. Many communities rely on councils, respected elders, and ritual leaders who guide rather than command.

Festivals, communal meals, storytelling, meditation, music, and physical contests are important ways of reinforcing community identity.

Oriander HeritageWarm Forests & Tropical Islands

A People of the Green Interior

Oriander is the principal homeland of the Vanaras in Abadonya. They are especially common in tropical island forests, sheltered jungle valleys, and interior regions where old trees dominate the landscape.

Vanaras living near trade routes sometimes work as guides, scouts, messengers, climbers, healers, or mediators between isolated interior communities and coastal settlements.

Those from more secluded villages may rarely see the ocean despite living on an island, spending most of their lives beneath the forest canopy.

Faith & OutlookBalance in Motion

Wisdom Through Experience

Vanara traditions often connect wisdom with movement, observation, and the ability to adapt without losing one's sense of self.

In Abadonya, many Vanaras honor Trentula through reverence for forests, animals, and living ecosystems. Others are drawn toward Mandella through traditions of wisdom, reflection, and preserved teaching.

Vanaras may follow any alignment or deity. Their playful reputation does not prevent them from being disciplined, serious, or deeply spiritual.

Vanara AdventurersBeyond the Treetops

Movement as Discovery

Vanaras become adventurers for many reasons: curiosity, spiritual discipline, community duty, exploration, or the desire to understand cultures beyond their forest home.

Monks, rangers, rogues, druids, clerics, oracles, and other agile or wisdom-focused classes are common, though Vanaras can pursue any class.

An Oriander Vanara adventurer might guide outsiders through a jungle interior, investigate a threat moving through the canopy, seek a distant teacher, or carry knowledge between communities that rarely meet.
